Obesity Rating in the New HRA

As time marches on, more information is coming to light on just what is in Obama's HRA. The latest item is an "Obesity Rating" that your healthcare provider will be required to report to the HHS and the CDC. By 2014, your medical records are going to be electronic and since your doctor has your height and weight recorded in your file in his or her office, they are going to be required to calculate your BMI and put this information out in the ether. Of course there will be security measures in place on these electronic records to try to help with privacy, but let's get real. The government now wants to know how fat your are. And if your health care providers and hospitals don't comply, they will risk getting penalized in the form of diminished Medicare and Medicaid payments.

Some people may ask, "What's so bad about this?" America is an obese nation. Maybe this will encourage those of us who need to loose weight and take better care of ourselves. I see alot of bad in this.

First, why does the government or any government institution need to know how obese it's constituents are? Answer: Money. It seems those who are obese will and do spend more on health care than those who aren't carrying extra weight. When we all are on Obama's government-run health care system, he doesn't want to waste any funds on 'unnecessary' medicines or procedures that obese people will suck up. Also, what hasn't been stated yet is when this law is fully implemented, employers may use this information with regard to hiring policies. If your obesity rating is high, you may not get hired because of it and if you do have a job, it could become grounds for terminating your employment unless you lower your rating in a given time frame.

Second, this obesity rating uses your BMI to rate your obesity. The problem with using BMI is that there are some people by virtue of their physical size, ethnic background, exercise regimens and genetics will be wrongly labeled obese when they haven't an ounce of fat on them. The CDC claims that a persons BMI is a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people. Example: California's Governor Schwarzeneggar is obese according to his BMI. I doubt that the CDC or anybody including "Mr. Teleprompt-reader" himself is going to tell "The Governator" he's obese.

This is just another attempt at controlling everyone in American and limiting our freedoms, folks. This is one more government intrusion into the private lives of its citizens. The very existence of this law is appalling. Is this what we want for ourselves and our children and grandchildren? An extremely skewed version of democracy that becomes more like a socialist state as time passes? It's time to do something about this Obamacare law before we can't. Write your Congressmen and Senators and demand they sign the discharge petition that Iowa Congressman Steve King is sponsoring and in November vote out anyone who supported this HRA.

With the knowledge of this information being in Obama's HRA, I have to wonder: Is there anything in it that covers smoking and the health risks associated with that habit? At least with obesity, you aren't directly affecting any of your family members health like living with a smoker does.

Hey lay off us smokers. :oP We warned you that with the increasing criminalization of a legal activity that soon other bad habits would also be criminalized. Now do you believe us? Of course it was okay when it was just us people with a nasty disgusting habit but now that the door to behavior modification through taxation and legislation has been opened you can bet you are going to have a damned hard time closing it.

Beware what you ask for; you just might get it.....

Oh and BTW, obesity does indeed affect your family members by finances. It takes a lot of money to buy all that extra food and pay those associated costs of health problems. That is money your family could be wasting on other things like, say, higher taxes. Welcome to Obamacare!

Ah, yes, all these little devilish details are now starting to pop out of HRA. What people eat, drink and smoke is a personal choice and nobody's damned business but their own. If you smoke, consume alcohol or have a BMI over 30 will you be marked person? That is really distressing to even ponder.

CK:

Always good to hear from you. In another ariticle I wrote posted on my Newsvine home page, I touched on the government controlling its citizens through the use of a Biometric Social Security card and how when everyone in the US has one in order to have a job, that it wouldn't be long before the government not only tracks where you go and what you buy, but that it would stop you from doing, reading, seeing, buying or listening to anything you shouldn't. Guess we don't have to worry about that now since Obamacare is going to keep you from eating or buying any food that you shouldn't if your BMI is too high.

The post about smoking was aimed directly at "the great pretender's" habit of smoking. And the effects of second-hand smoke on family members who live with a smoker are well documented. I just wonder if he will give up the habit when this BS law is forced upon us fully.

Doesn't that just chap your hide? And have you heard about Michelle taking the daughters on a trip to Spain and reserving 30 rooms at the Ritz? Just makes me angry that she's utilizing our tax dollars in this way.
